The club is supported by 10,000 members who hail from parts far and near and whose interests are as diverse as the native plant communities along the trail. The one thing these people have in common is their contribution to the ongoing protection and maintenance of the Long Trail via annual membership dues.
Did you know? The Green Mountain Club has two types of members!
GMC members can choose to affiliate with one of the Club's fourteen geographically-located sections or to remain at-large supporters. Both types of members pay annual dues and have the same basic benefits (see sidebar).
GMC's at-large members support the mission of the club and general operations. They have the option to participate in trail maintenance and management through a variety of club-wide programs, including adopting a section of trail or a shelter, serving on a committee, volunteering as caretakers, and are welcome to participate in section events.
A GMC section is a local chapter that maintains a designated portion of the Long Trail System. In addition to the regular benefits of membership, GMC section members receive section updates via newsletters and online listings for local hikes, trail work trips, and other events. More about GMC sections
