Give Back and Find Community on the Trails
Volunteers have been the backbone of the Green Mountain Club for more than a century, and there’s a space for you to join these critical ranks. Without volunteers’ time, energy, and knowledge, the trail would not exist or be managed as it is today. There are dozens of ways to get involved both on and off the trail.
Review our current volunteer needs, and submit a general application.
Types of Volunteer Opportunities
GMC has numerous volunteer opportunities to fit your schedule, interests, and skills. Want to work on trail infrastructure and keep them in tip-top shape? Consider adopting a section of trail or a shelter, packing bark mulch into backcountry composting privies, or joining a one-time special project. You can also volunteer with a GMC section, regional volunteer groups that organize routine group maintenance outings.
Enjoy connecting with other hikers? Expand knowledge of Vermont hiking and natural history as an Information Volunteer or Trail Steward.
You can also volunteer to ensure GMC’s conserved lands are being used properly, or join a committee to help advise the organization on strategic priorities.

Volunteering with Your Group
You can volunteer with your school, scout troop, summer camp, or co-workers as part of GMC’s Service Learning Program. Connect with us directly to find an opportunity to complete construction and maintenance projects on the Long Trail.
