We curate day hiking and backpacking recommendations across more than 500 miles of trail, including the world-famous Long Trail. Find hike preparation and safety guidelines online and in-person. Our goal is to help you find your next Vermont hiking adventure.

Explore the Trails

Vermont is home to countless world-class hiking trails. Discover the Green Mountains, home to the Long Trail, the oldest long-distance hiking trail in the United States, and its 88 side trails. The 2,000-mile Appalachian Trail also spans 150 miles of southern and eastern Vermont on its way to Maine.

Plan and Prepare

Hiking and exploring the backcountry can come with some inherent risks. To have a successful hike, whether it is one mile or an entire 272-mile thru-hike, be sure you are prepared with the necessary knowledge, gear, and safety planning.

GMC Rental Cabins

GMC owns and rents four rustic cabins that serve as an excellent home base for all types of recreating. Two cabins are in the backcountry network at Bolton Valley and two sit adjacent to each other on Wheeler Pond in the Northeast Kingdom.
